OSI Group has been around for a very long time. It was founded in 1928 in Chicago by a German immigrant and his sons. Do a bit of quick math and you’ll realize that’s close to 90 years ago. OSI quickly built a reputation as a in the community as a quality meat provider. A couple decades later the meat processing company exploded.
It just so happened that around the same time OSI’s revenue began increasing rapidly, startup fast food restaurant McDonalds was looking for a food supplier to partner with. The partnership was a great decision for both companies.
By the 1970’s OSI had become the the Midwest supplier of meat patties to the McDonald’s Corporation. After cryogenic food processing became popular McDonalds decided to end partnerships with more than a hundred beef suppliers. In the end, it decided it only needed four. Luckily, for OSI it was one of the four chosen.
Soon afterwards OSI began developing a plan to expand into the foreign market. At the time there was a lot of fuss about overseas investment opportunities. OSI Industries aggressively began expanding throughout the country and began building meat processing facilities in parts of Europe, South America, and Taiwan.
Following a change in leadership in the 1980’s OSI began to become a powerhouse in the industry. It even expanded substantially once again, building facilities in the Philippines, China, Australia, Japan, India and South Africa in a little over a decade.
Today OSI Group is one of the leading food processing companies in the world. It was honored with the 2016 Globe of Honor Award by the British Safety Council. 2016 was a busy year for OSI. It acquired three major companies including Baho Food, Tyson Food Plant, and Flagship Europe. This is why OSI is one of the nation’s top 100 food Companies.
